Bio

Based in Burwash Landing, Yukon, Diyet is from the Kluane First Nation. Singing came naturally to Diyet. With a great grandpa who was an eminent potlatch singer, a grandma who was an opera singer and a musician father, music was in the family and a vocal career was a natural progression for her.
Equipped with a degree in music from the University of Victoria, Diyet is a classically trained singer and a published songwriter with song placements in Japan, Canada and Europe. In 2005 the Southern Tutchone singer returned to her home community of Burwash Landing, after years of living the “city life” with a commitment to make lasting contributions to her First Nation and has since become a leader in her community.

The return to her roots inspired Diyet musically and she took a more personal look at the songwriting process. The songs from the resulting album are inspired from her experiences and observations of life in contemporary first nation society. Always hopeful, Diyet is a contemporary aboriginal artist who is focused on removing the barriers and stereotypes that face modern aboriginal people.

Diyet’s debut album, “The Breaking Point,“ which offers catchy melodies, hopeful lyrics, and head bopping grooves was recorded with Juno award winning producer Bob Hamilton and Robert van Lieshout. Her music is influenced by her roots and ancestry and is the inspiration for many of her songs. With a worldview of aboriginal culture, she is focused on the greater human potential and has always been drawn to music as her vehicle.

Diyet is meeting with success following the release of her debut album, The Breaking Point at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics in Vancouver. She wowed crowds of thousands, performing on Olympic and aboriginal stages during the games. Her music is soulful, danceable and a touch rootsy. “This album was written in my village and is heavily influenced by the wide spectrum of emotions and happenings that come to the forefront of rural first nation communities, but the messaging is universal,” says Diyet.
